Welcome to the June edition of the Duke of Url and Duchess

You are the Hit Counter tech seeker to visit the Duke this year.

The following sites are an excellent scource of web knowledge. Info is mainly about computers, graphics, HTML and popular software programs. Don't Quote Me, But... Sites were selected for the splendid attention given to the novice. For those not interested in tech, I recommend visiting the photo and graphic sites.

For you not-so-tecky types, next month will be more fun, promise.

Let's Rock.. umm, slowly, OK? This site is more than helpful, it's down right enlightening. Dr. Ralph Wilson is an Internet guru, literally. This particular link is to a web postion analyzer. His hints will help you receive a better position on the search engines. Be sure to peruse the full site for additional content, you will learn a lot.
A Real Murphy Situation if I ever saw one. The Web Developers Guild. The sticky-wicket of Web Design contracts and agreements. Items to consider including in a Web Design/Development contract. This is for the wanna-be webmasters. It's called CYA!
Was going to say that this is a punny site,,,but Naaa. There are plenty of online computer companies on the web now. Most of the biggies are up there. Did you know that Dell computers is selling over two million dollars worth of PCs a "day" off their web site! This link will take you to their site and you can see how they do it. It's neat, but a little knowledge of computer hardware and OSs helps.
I find these things a little salty. WorldView for Developers 2.1, an ActiveX control enabling developers to easily embed their interactive "3D viewing component" into your applications. It is now available for a special introductory price. But, download a free 30 day evaluation version and test drive it first.
Very Interesting Site The is Real Audio's oops directory. I had an old link of theirs and when clicked it took me here. This is great, what a bookmark. It gives all the links to their different sites and programs. Most helpful for finding the right RealAudio site quickly.
A rose is still a rose by any other name.. neat eh? Tutorials by Kevin. So you want to put a database on the internet, just like the big guys... Okay, you asked for it, you got it. Kevin's discussion area is now ASP-Driven, and he's included links to special pages where you can view the ASP code for the pages. Well done Kevin.
Turkey, who woulda thought. Have you visited Microsoft's web site and wondered what the pages ending with .asp were? In Randy Wilson's opinion, the ASP technology is one of the most powerful tools for advanced web page design. It allows the user to interact with a web-based database and other information files, making electronic commerce sites, shopping carts, etc. fairly easy to design and implement.
Now this is profound stuff U.S. Copyright is a form of protection provided by the laws of the United States to the authors of "original works of authorship" including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other intellectual works. This protection is available to both published and unpublished works. Section 106 of the Copyright Act generally gives the owner of copyright the exclusive right to do and to authorize others to do the following: pay them a visit and find out.
This is usually Jteems' Job, not mine. Create 8 is a super place to pick up some unusual fonts. Good font working tools and managers and also great font links. Most is shareware and freeware. Very classy site as well.
The Very First Steps You can download and install a trial version of Xara3D 2 from this page. The download size is just 664K - it should take around five minutes to download over a modem. This is an affordable commercial program and with it you can make superb 3D titles, etc. Try it, you'll be surprised how easy it is to become a graphic expert ;-) (Of course you pros know I'm just kidding, right?)
Kitty's has some witches... why? ZyGraphics will make you a 3D heading for free. Many styles to choose from. Just supply the info and -viola!- you have a nifty 3D banner for your homepage.
Lipstick on my collar. naa, wishful thinking. Active State Professional Tools for Perl Developers. If you want to learn more about Perl or even learn what it is, drop by this site. It's a Pearl!
Watch out for the dust There are plenty of excellent tutorials on the Internet for Adobe PhotoShop users. This is Adobe's own site and they have some great tutorials. Also, there is a new and easy web graphic program called "ImageReady" by Adobe. You will not need PhotoShop with this affordable program. Download their free trial version.
Really cool, surprise your friends. "What isThumbsPlus®? It's only the most effective, elegant and inexpensive way to locate, view, edit, print and organize your images, metafiles, fonts and movies. It will even build web pages for you! ThumbsPlus version 3.21 is available to try or buy for Windows 95/NT/3.1 - and it's coming soon to the Macintosh." I noticed the beta is available for Mac.Graphic and photo collectors should look at something like this program to help organize.

Many of these sites will help with your homepage, try it.

Developer Com is a wealth of web developing information. Java, Javascripts, JavaBeans, Perl, etc. Lots of free apps. A treasure! Webtracker is a great stats a stats program for homesites. It displays in good form lots of stats that I am sure you need. Give them a visit and then try it.

Don't know a lot about this one, try it. "The Web Design Group was founded to promote the creation of non-browser specific, non-resolution specific, creative and informative sites that are accessible to all users worldwide. To this end, the WDG offers material on a wide range of HTML related topics. We hope that with this site as a reference, you will be able to create Web sites that can be used by every person on the Internet, regardless of browser, platform, or settings."
Netscape explains it's HTML 3 extensions. In addition, they've also added several new areas of HTML functionality to Netscape Navigator that are not currently in the HTML 3.0 specification. They think they belong there, and as part of the standards process, they are proposing them for inclusion. (same old, same old) This is a little web site about a truly capable image editor from Microsoft called Image Composer, commonly called IC. Don't pronounce it like "ick". That wouldn't be polite. Just call it I-C.
To help you get the most out IC and to find other resources about it, try Ashton's link.
Want a complete set of descriptions on all the HTML extensions? Microsoft has an excellent scource site. This makes an interesting read, especially for the newbie. Transparent Background Images: You can control this by using GIF89a images, which have the ability to mark a single color in the colormap as transparent, forcing the browser to use its background color for those pixels in the image. Just thought you should know that it's possible. Matt's free Perl Cgi Scripts... over 3 years of Perl and CGI generousity. You probably have seen Matt's scripts all over the web and not noticed.
