So Why Am I A Mason? |
To become a Mason, you must be twenty-one years of age or older, male and you must show an interest in the organization. The sponsoring Mason will guide you and be your mentor throughout the process. If interested, ask any Mason about themselves. The female counter part of the organization is called The Eastern Star. There are a lot of myths and mysteries about the order. Perhaps because Masonry is the most ancient, moral human institution that ever existed. Masonry believes in protecting it's secrets through a process of signs, symbols and the honour of it's members. It is my personal belief that in many ways this ancient organization is more beneficial to it's membership in these modern times than ever before. Regardless of it's few secrets, anyone can learn a lot about Masonry and I have included a link to one of the organization's homepage. What I would like to say in these few paragraphs is what Masonry means to me and therefore, what it can mean to you. I have been a Lion member for over 37 years, a Mason member for 27 years and I perceive the chief differences to be as follows. A Lions Club is a service club that enables any individual to help their community through a united effort with others. The Masons do charity work, but it is primarily a fraternal organization whose goal is to encourage a good person to be better. What do I mean by fraternal and why do I need to belong to both organizations to fulfill my existence? I love the satisfied feeling one receives from being part of a good helping cause, therefore I am a Lion. Then, there are the benefits of self worth and moral improvement that is derived from being a member of a fraternal organization like the Masons. Since, as far as I know, I have only one life time, I want as many good feelings as I can get. Simple isn't it? Sometimes you can be greedy and selfish in an unselfish way. To Be A Mason ....
