Judged by the Company One Keeps

One night in late October
When I was far from sober,
Returning with my load with manly pride,
My feet began to stutter,
So I lay down in the gutter,
And a pig came near and lay down by my side;
A lady passing by was heard to say:
"You can tell a man who boozes,
By the company he chooses,"
And the pig got up and slowly walked away.

---This month has a few patriotic sites and a goodly portion of mix-mash---

Evolution of the USA Flag: No one knows with absolute certainty who designed the first stars and stripes or who made it. Congressman Francis Hopkinson seems most likely to have designed it, and few historians believe that Betsy Ross, a Philadelphia seamstress, made the first one. "In 1777 USA passed their first flag act. Read about what followed. After all July is Independence Month for the USA folk."
The Origins of Canada Day: Did you know that before 1982 Canada Day had been known as Dominion Day, First of July, Confederation Day, and July the First? Canada Day celebrates the events that occurred on July 1, 1867, when the British North America Act created the Canadian federal government. The BNA Act proclaimed "one Dominion under the name of Canada," hence the original title of the holiday, "Dominion Day." Dominion Day was officially renamed "Canada Day" by an Act of Parliament on October 27, 1982. This change reflected the policy of successive governments to downplay Canada's colonial origins. Canada's national celebration is always observed on July 1, unless that date falls on a Sunday, in which case it is observed the following day. "If you want to know more, visit this site."
Dr. Clifford Pickover: Fourth Dimension: Enter if you dare. What would 4D beings look like? Could heaven reside in a fourth spatial dimension just inches away from our 3D world? Mexico's election this past Sunday may not have marked the first time that the electorate voted to sweep the Institutional Revolutionary Party from much of the control it has exercised over the country for the past 70 years, but it may have been the first time that the party let the votes be counted accurately. "Here is a neat editorial about the Mexican election. I found it at Peekaboo.net."
